Freckle Removal

What causes freckles?

Freckles are small to large brown spots on the skin. Individuals with a lighter skin tone (Fitzpatrick I-III) are more likely to develop freckles in comparison to darker skin tones. More often than not they arise from unprotected sun exposure. Prolonged exposure to the sun causes overproduction of melanin within the skin, giving the freckles their darker colour.

Can I remove my freckles?

Yes freckles can be removed. At Laser & Dermal by Sandy, we offer freckle removal for skin types I-III (not IV-VI). We use Candela's GentleMaxPro Plus device to perform the treatment.

Typically up-to 3 sessions are needed to remove unwanted freckles however in some cases, more or less treatments may be needed.

Please note that individual results will vary.

Results can be influenced by factors including but not limited to:

- the colour of the freckle. Brown freckles will be more effectively removed as opposed to more 'orange' freckles

- individual laser sensitivity levels and heat tolerance

- how well pre and post freckle removal care is followed

Extractions

What are blackheads and whiteheads?
Both are skin pores or hair follicles clogged with bacteria, dead skin cells or oil.
The difference between the 2 is that blackheads have been oxidised (exposed to oxygen/air) due to the pore being opened, whereas whiteheads remain closed (not exposed to any air).

Oil based hair/skin products, and poor hygiene are the main causes of clogged pores, as well as certain underlying skin conditions.

Skincare products containing salicylic acid (BHA - beta hydroxy acid) are recommended for individuals who suffer from congested pores. Salicylic acid works as an exfoliant to help unclog pores by removing the oils and bacteria produced by our sebaceous glands within our skin.

Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels are the most affordable and effective solution to improve skin texture, exfoliate dead skin cells and refine open pores.
Chemical Peels promote even, controlled and accelerate exfoliation (shedding) of old skin cells. Although the skin naturally replaces these old skin cells with new ones, that process slows down as we age.

Chemical Peels utilise various agents to target individual skin conditions & safely offer immediate skin rejuvenation.

- AHA's (alpha-hydroxy acids) such as lactic, glycolic, malic, mandelic, and citric acid

- BHA's (beta-hydroxy acids) such as salicylic acid

AHA's are commonly used for dry skin, uneven skin tone, or surface level skin concerns such as acne scarring, whereas BHA's are better suited for oily to combination skin types.

Peels on offer at Laser & Dermal by Sandy include:

Acne Peel A - $100

Acne Peel B - $100
